Racially Motivated – Deadly 4th of July Weekend in Chicago: 80 Shot, 16 Killed

HOLD UP!! Over 80 People were SHOT and 16 DIEDDDD this past 4th of July weekend in Chicago?? Were they shot by some “Real N*ggas”? are our communities STILL ‪#‎NOTsnitching‬ ??

I’ve been WAITING 2 whole days for a COOL Profile Pic to go viral that we can all put on our pages to “Show Support”.. I’ve been WAITING 2 whole days to see what new Slogan or ‪#‎Hashtag‬ we would get trending to show that we were “MAD”.. I’ve been WAITING 2 Whole Mutha’Fnkn DAYS to see which Date and What Streets we were going to occupy and “MARCH FOR JUSTICE”..

For 2 Whole Days I’ve had my Hoodie Ironed, Picketing sticks, Blow horn and ready to go “show” America, CNN, Fox and other news outlets how this past weekends tragedies not only effected these 80 families, but also US as a nation.. But then I realized that this time it wasn’t “THEM” that shot ONE of US… It was US that shot MANY of US and we just don’t get rilled up about that type of iSht..

My bad, I’ll just put my “We’re Mad and we’re just not Gonna take it any more as a Black Community” toolkit back in the closet until it’s a White COP, Asian Neighbor, Arab Store Owner who does the Killing of one of our own. I’ll just let this weekend add to the over 210 DEATHS of our own by our own in Chicago Alone since JAN 1st 2014. I’ll let it slide that over 1,000 have been shot and wounded.. But When we get THAT ONE death that all of us can agree on that was “Racially Motivated”; Bet you we gon’ get it popping then and getting our social commentary on, get our cool ‪#‎Hashtags‬ and go back and forth with our white/asian/latino/arabian brothers and friends about how they just don’t understand what it means to be black and to be killed by another race..

THIS Weekend WASSSS Racially Motivated.. Our own brothers did not like one another so much that they took out their guns and shot another black person to death. We all don’t understand what it means to be shot and killed by our own kind. We have a false sense of feeling safe around another black person when we are collectively marching against the “injustice” served to us when we are killed by a white man. But then in the same communities we just marched in it’s okay when someone we’ve grown up with, probably went to school with ends up killing us or our children because of minor differences, misunderstandings and turf wars. Where did our values on LIFE go? What are we teaching our Kids? What are we teaching ourselves?

1 Life take by Gun violence is 10 Lives too many.. That math doesn’t make sense? It shouldn’t because there shouldn’t even be just 1 let alone 16 in one Weekend in 1 City.. I saw on my social networks the effect of just 1 Death of a local Husband who was shot and killed outside a club this past weekend and it put a LOT of people I KNOW in a sad place. 1 Life to take is too much. Let’s all try and take a “Chill Pill” off life for a second, regroup, take an inventory of whats influencing our young culture to act so savagely with no respect for another life.

At times I feel like this world is only testing how much love, joy, peace, kindness, forbearance, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control that we have left in us. Maybe we should start working on these fruits within ourselves, teach them to our children and their friends, share them with our neighbors, share them ONLINE daily like the best TWERK video ever. Meditate on them day and night, cut off all portals of negative influences that lead to your soul because eventually out of the abundance of your heart, your mouth will soon speak. If you no longer have hate towards your brother or sister, you will be able to tell them that you love and care for them instead of accepting their challenge and pronouncing, “Well, N*gga let’s take this outside then, I ain’t no punk..”

Maybe, just maybe you would have saved someones else’s child from dying next weekend or better yet; you may have just saved yourself or your child from making a wrong turn through this valley of the shadows of death..

Easter Service 2013

I want to start out by giving thanks to Jesus Christ for being our Lord & Savior.

My family & I went to the Fountain of Life House of Worship in Phoenix this weekend for their Easter Service.

Their arts department put on a play that was magnificent and very moving. This was our 1st Easter Service together with our son August The Great.

Is I grow, I’m thankful and happy to have Christ in my family’s life. We continuously grow and I get new revelations on how to be a better Husband, Father, Son, Brother & Friend.

Amazing World


 

I was outside for only 5 mins when I noticed the clouds moving super low and extra dark. Something told me to take a picture of it because I don’t usually see this in phoenix AZ. A loud thunderstorm hit and then it started hailing. I ran quickly to move my car into the garage but the storm got me lol.. Check the video below on how quick things can change.

How Can I Rest More?

Three things:

1) Think back to the five greatest moments in your life. Did any of them occur while you were staring at a screen or talking on the phone? Can you say, “wow, the number 3 most impactful moment in my life was that time I was crossing Main Street while talking on the phone with my buddy and it was just AMAZING!” No, you won’t say that. Nor will it be the time you were playing online scrabble with friends or surfing that little website, “jamesaltucher.com” although that last one might make the top 10. Let’s be disciplined  and stick  to five.

2) Your computer screen overstimulates the pineal gland. If you cracked open your forehead and drilled a whole through the center of the skull, and suck out what’s underneath with a straw you’d drink your own pineal gland.

Don’t do that.

The pineal gland, among other things, regulates the melatonin in the body. When it’s overstimulated, like when you stare at a computer screen all day, the melatonin in your body is suppressed and your sleep and rest periods will be automatically more difficult. You won’t get into a deep sleep, for instance, or you will wake up at 3 in the morning, anxious about all the things you have to do and the cycle repeats. The pineal gland stops functioning well as we age, which is why older people get less sleep. They don’t NEED less sleep, as is commonly thought, but they get less quality sleep because the pineal gland calcifies and less melatonin is produced in the body, resulting in less sleep as well as more age-related diseases such as cancer.

So basically, when you stare at a computer screen all day, particularly at night, your body is going to think you are a  90 year old man. When you are a 90 year old man, not only is it harder for you to get sleep but it’s harder for you to get basic tasks done, so you have to stay at the computer screen longer. The famous shit-sandwich-cycle (as seen on Oprah, etc) repeats.

3) Staring at a computer screen releases dopamine in the body. The dopamine hormone is the “reward hormone”. It tells the body,”Job well done”. Normally you want that hormone only released when you actually do a good job at something. Unfortunately, lots of drugs also trigger it. Which is why we become psychologically addicted to many drugs. Guess what? Staring at a computer screen also triggers it. So we become an addict. And even when we have nothing do, we still feel this need to stare at a computer screen.

Part of your feeling, “I never get enough done” has nothing to do with getting enough done. It’s actually a withdrawal symptom of the addiction of looking at the computer screen. So we must remove our addictions.

By the way, if someone talks to you about hormones say, “Hmm, I never heard a whore moan.”

Ok, back to work:

I want to sleep better. I want to rest better. I also want to be more creative in my life and help more people. So we are going to do this shit-sandwich diet and accomplish this.

A)  Make a To-Don’t List. Not a To-Do list. But this morning I’m going to make a list of all the things I don’t want to do. Here’s part of my list: I’m not going to play online chess for more than five minutes today. I’m an addict and can play for hours. Five minutes is basically five games. That’s enough. I’m not going to read news online. What’s better – to read a poorly researched, opinionated, poorly written news article or to get up and read a good book. The latter is better (I felt the need to answer that question just in case there were doubts). The news is always lies. What happened to radiation in San Francisco because of Fukishama? What happened to Avian Flu? Where is Greece already? Nothing in the news comes true. No news! Which means, no cat pictures!

No random surfing. No responding to hatemail. No returning emails you don’t have to. No junk food. Junk food prevents you from sleeping because it’s hard to digest.

No alcohol. Alcohol has sugar. Right when you need to rest it spikes up and you’re completely awake even when you don’t want to be.

And finally, no screen time after 6pm. It doesn’t matter what you have to do. You will get more done in the long run if you turn off the computer after 6pm.

B) Do something EXTRA for each client. This might seem counter-intuitive. You have a hard enough time getting things done – this is why you asked the question in the first place. How will  doing something extra help.

Every client is asking you to accomplish a list of tasks. Always keep in mind, “What extra task can I do for this client that they did not ask for?” This will result in several benefits:

–  You will get through the main tasks so you can get to the extra task

– It”s pleasant to surprise people. It’s like a classic Steve Jobs talk. He gives an entire talk, showing all of the amazing new Apple products and everyone cheers and then finally he says, “oh I forgot to tell you, we also MADE A TIME MACHINE!” And the crowd goes crazy. We came to expect that in Steve Jobs talks, which is why they became so famous, such a source of pleasure to watch.

– Give and you will receive. Clients remain loyal when they know you are standing out on the ledge for them. They will also cut you slack when you need it so you dont’ have to feel overwhelmed all the time. They will become your partners instead of your clients.

– While you are doing the extra task for the client, you won’t be doing the mindless stuff, like surfing the web, looking at “cat pictures” (I put in quotes because we all know what that  really means. Err, at least for me). Doing extra for a client will cut down on your “random” time, which will ultimately result in more rest time.

– By the time you are done with the extra task it’s time to rest.

C)  Take a 20 minute walk. Try to do this every 90 minutes. I’m going to tell you a secret. The mind isn’t creative. Your emotions are not creative.

When was the last time you were panicking or afraid or anxious and suddenly you came up with the greatest idea you’ve ever come up with? I’ll answer for  you: NEVER. When our mind is filled with thoughts, it crowds out the inner silence that is the source of ALL creativity.

We have a mind in order to get food. Our competitors for food were all bigger and stronger than us so we needed to come up with a brain that could outwit them. But your true source of creativity comes when the mind slows down and you connect to the deeper parts of you.

This happens when you take a walk. You get some exercise. Your eyes enjoy new input. You get away from the screen. And guess what, your subconscious, or superconscious, or whatever you want to call it, gets a chance to be creative.

D) At the end of the work day: return all emails. Set aside that time to return all non-immediate emails.

E) Finally, at the very end of the work day, list everything you did that day. This isn’t a “To Do” list. This is a “I Did” list. You will be surprised how much you got done.

So, to summarize, here is the “get more rest” cheat sheet:

– no screen time after 6pm

– take walks

– you know perfectly well what is “bad screen time” versus “good screen time” so be strict about that.

– do an extra task each day for each client

– make an appointment with yourself each day to return emails. This way you won’t feel anxious about them during the day. Don’t do anything during that time other than return emails.

– No junk food. No alcohol. No coffee after 9am (coffee stays in the system for 12 hours). No online games. If you want to do social facebook time, set a limit of 5-10 minutes a day on it.

– If you really wanted to rest: don’t eat dinner. Breakfast and lunch is enough. It’s not like you are going to die of starvation. The 90 minutes of dinner can be rest time.

– No TV past 8pm. For shows you love you can always download to the ipod later and watch them on your commute. Go  to sleep instead. What happens after 8pm is you forget  that you used to only watch the shows you love and you start watching, “Keeping up With the Kardashians” (if you happen to love that show, please stop).

– Wake up an hour early for exercise and/or reading. Since you just went to sleep early, you should be able to do that. Even 2 minutes of exercise is good.

Try this: Doing the above list, try to work only four hours a day instead of eight. You will be surprised how easy it is. You will be surprised how guilt you will feel (because of screen withdrawal symptoms).

It’s hard to do this list. We’re all addicts to the screen. If we all did the above, here’s what will happen: we will get more work done, we will  be more creative, we will get more rest, our children would see us  more, we’ll have more sex, we’ll get more exercise, we’ll sleep deeper, we’ll live longer, we’ll look better.

Sounds pretty good.

#MensMinistry – Dr. Eric Mason

This past Friday & Saturday I was able to attend an event for Men at the Life Connection Church off 29th Ave & Indian School Road.  The Church was wonderful, I liked that a group of Churches came together and was able to put this event on. There were over 200 Men fellowshiping & Praising God together. The Atmosphere was definitely powerful. Dr. Eric Mason was the guest preacher and I loved the way that he brought the message. The way he covered and Broke down Proverbs 5:15-22 was pretty anointing. I was able to understand it even more so now than when I read it by myself. I wish I could go into it more about the Conference, but you just had to be there. I will start finding and posting some videos of Dr. Eric Mason in the near future so you can hear his preachings.

Starting Your Day off the Right Way

The morning is the most important time of the day. Why? – Because it can easily set the mood for the rest of your day! This is due to many reasons. One of the most significant is that it is much easier (scientifically, almost 25 times easier) to develop short term ideas that will last the entire day upon first waking up. When you first awaken, your mindis slowly leaving the delta state (low brain wave frequency), where it is most easily influenced by mental suggestion. In other words, your mind is most open – and what you put in it will stay in it – until at least the end of the day.That being said, it is absolutely critical that you start your day off on the “right side of the bed.” Any negative thoughts you have will shape your subconscious for the entire day.

We know you’re busy in the morning and don’t have time for therapeutic, two hour spa sessions when you’re trying to get to work or class on time. Therefore, this list is as “grounded” as is possible, and you can start using it – now.

1. Initial Wakeup
GET UP! FAST! When you wake up, get out of bed as fast as you can (without sending yourself into cardiac arrest, of course)! Waste no time in getting up.

2. Light
The power of light is severely underestimated by most people. It has profound effects upon body chemistry and energy levels. You circadian rhythm (based on light levels) affects nearly all aspects of your physiology. Bright, natural light is ideal for bringing the most energy to all the body’s systems. So, the sooner you turn on the lights or open the blinds, the sooner your body’s systems will increase their energy levels.

3. Wake Up to a Clean Room
This one may not seem that significant, but believe me – it is. Waking up to a clean, organized room has a positive first impression upon your mind.

4. Fresh Air
Open the window. No matter what season it is. Open the windows even if it is just a crack. Your bedroom has sat stagnant all night, void of fresh air, especially if you leave your door closed.

5. Music
Even if you are not musically motivated, music can shape your mornings. Turn on music as soon as you can after waking up. Make sure it is something positive and uplifting – as chances are it may become stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

6. Food
Start your morning off with a full glass of water before you eat anything else – this is essential. Toxins have been ejected from tissue and line your throat and mouth (thus, morning-breath) and the last thing you want to do is to allow them to adhere to your breakfast. Drink a full glass of water -and give it ten minutes. If you have an empty stomach, the toxins will be flushed down, with no food to absorb them. Ten minutes later, you may eat your breakfast. The subject of a healthy breakfast is obviously a lengthy subject, but I’ll be brief – DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST.

7. Cold shower
Take a cold shower. Yes, freezing cold is unbearable. You don’t have to do it that way. Start it off hot. Then, after you’re medium-toasty (not well-toasty… it will make you more tired), put it on cold for as long as you can take it. Then, put it on hot for a minute… then cold for a minute. Repeat the hot-cold cycle a few times – this will not only wake you up fast, but it will expand and contract your pores to force out toxins and oils from the night.

8. Self-Talk
Self-Talk should be the most important part of any morning routine. In the morning, you need to load yourself with as much positive mental programming as possible. Your mind is most receptive to it in the morning (and at night), and it will shape the rest of your day. (AFFIRMATIONS)

Give your all to God

 As I boarded the Flight to Los Angeles This past Friday, I said my prayers as I usually tend to do and was on my way. I had a carry on bag full of TY&GB Clothing as I was ready to Hit the road running. We have a Family business that had a booth at the LA County Fair this past year so I decided to take my brand new shirts out there to spread the message. My first customers as I arrived were my Mother and Aunt. (I Love her, She has supported me in all my endeavors) I got a lot of great responses from people just noticing that I had the “God Bless” Shirt on and It made everyone that Said something about it seem to smile and greet me with Joy.

On Sunday they had a Youth dance and praise Ministry perform and completely helped minister to me. They were wonderful.  A group from the Mountain View Faith Community Church (www.MFCC.tv) The spirit of containment tried setting in with doubts of whether to approach this crowd about my shirts. I remembered a Sermon that my Pastor preached during Last Weeks Bible Study on how the Devil tries to use this spirit on us to keep us from stepping out on what God has told us to do. So I waited a little longer (I Know, God wants us to MOVE NOW) but prayed for the Spirit to move me from being shy about Letting others know about God. So I kept hearing my Pastors Voice about (If only Christians would be BOLD enough to speak on Christ as they do everything else….) So I decided to approach a Member. His name was Jay I believe. We spoke for a little bit and I told him exactly what was put in my heart and about the T-Shirt Line. The brother was Kind and Loving, Bought a Shirt from me and asked to pray with me right there at the booth. I’ve been praying in church for awhile now and no longer did I feel “weird” about prayer in the midst of “everyone else” as I used to feel when I was growing up as a teenager.

I ended up meeting with their Youth Pastor and he also gave me some Great words of encouragement and some pointers on how to keep the journey going. He spoke pretty much what my Pastor has been saying to me for the past year and a half on always Praying. It was refreshing to see other young Christian Men out and about fired up for Christ that it completely made my whole trip. I will continue Walking out on Faith and spreading God’s message because he knows what’s in my Heart.

My Name is Otieno. I was Born in Kisumu Kenya. At a very early age, I witnessed poverty & hardship growing up in Kisumu.
Living in a “third world country” doesn’t afford you quite the same
luxuries of a typical American childhood. From sad memories of living in
a village with no running water & electricity to the better ones
like my 1st Christmas being enjoyed just Eating Cake & Drinking
Orange Fanta (my favorite) with my Mom & Dad. In 1988 by the grace
of God, my family was sponsored to come live in America with our father
through donations collected by a church in Seattle Washington.  I was 8
years old when I told my cousins that I will see them again..
That was the last time i ever saw Kenya and my extended family. 

My story is a long
journey of Faith, Trials and Tribulation, Party, Party, Party, Loss,
Depression, Redemption and a Return back to Christ. Ty & GB Clothing
was a vision I was given to start a Positive Christian based T-shirt
& Website to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  At first I was
scared; Very Scared. Growing up as a Ministers son in Seattle was tough
for me as a youth. So the first chance I got to leave the watchful eyes
of the church, I took it and left to study Computer Engineering at
Arizona State University. This is just a Quick Glimpse of my story that I
was given to testify so that others who are going through what I went
through may be able to follow the path which leads back to Christ &
God’s Kingdom. As you read this, I want you to know that I am taking my
steps out on faith and not letting excuses stop me from doing what I am

1st Fashion Show

The online shop is opening up soon. I must say that i’m excited to finally take this First BIG Step of Faith on What God shared with me as I was transitioning from my Party Promotion Days. I’ve sat, listened and took the steps he kept telling me for the past 2 years and Now i’m ready to see how Amazing God truly is.

As Soon as I printed up my Shirts, My sister in Christ (Tina) told me about a Fashion Show in Litchfield Park AZ. I went and within 30mins I was able to find two Great Men (Chris and Keith) To help me showcase my designs at the Fashion Show. I look forward to the line growing and spreading the word. This Little Light of Mine…. I’m gonna let it SHINE..
